Tenchu Combat Concepts Safety Procedures (NSPs)

These NSPs are the mandatory handling standard for all students training with handgun platforms such as the Sig Sauer P226 and Colt 1911.

They must be followed exactly, every time, without exception.


Core Safety Rules (Always Active)

  • Treat every weapon as loaded
  • Muzzle remains downrange at all times
  • Finger remains off the trigger unless firing
  • Be aware of target and beyond


Step By Step NSP Procedure

1. Initial Pick-Up & Safety Verification

  • Point weapon downrange immediately upon contact
  • Remove magazine (if present)
  • Lock slide to the rear
  • Conduct:
    • Visual chamber check
    • Physical chamber check (finger verification)
  • Verbally confirm: “Clear”


2. Loading Phase

  • Load magazine
  • Insert magazine into weapon
  • Apply correct platform condition:
    • Sig Sauer P226 → decocked
    • Colt 1911 → safety engaged as required
  • Holster safely:
    • Finger off trigger
    • Slow, controlled reholstering
    • Confirm no obstructions


3. Drill Execution

  • Draw smoothly
  • Present to target
  • Acquire sights
  • Fire as directed
  • Maintain muzzle discipline throughout


4. Post-Drill Unloading

  • Finger off trigger
  • Remove magazine
  • Lock slide to the rear
  • Conduct:
    • Visual chamber check
    • Physical chamber check
  • Verbally confirm: “Clear”


5. Safe Reset

  • Maintain downrange orientation
  • Release slide under control
  • (Optional: Dry fire only if part of a specific drill, not standard NSP requirement)


6. Magazine Handling

  • Safely retain magazine:
    • Preferred: return to pouch
    • Alternative: secure, consistent grip
  • Avoid unnecessary complexity or fine motor dependency


7. Range Master Verification

  • Present weapon:
    • Slide locked open
    • Chamber visible
    • Magazine removed
  • Await secondary clearance check
  • Do not move or break posture until confirmed


Critical Emphasis Points

  • Every check is BOTH visual and physical
  • Every clear is verbally confirmed
  • Every action is done downrange
  • Holstering is slow and deliberate
  • No rushed handling at any stage


It is important that all of the steps of the NSPs are followed whenever you handle a firearm as part of your training at Tenchu Combat Concepts. All drills are done with airsoft or .177 cal CO2 Pistols. The only time we live fire is if we visit purpose built ranges in the UK.
